Brownsea Open Air Theatre (BOAT) annually performs a Shakespeare play in the open air on the island during July and August. Every year 300 swimmers take part and swim 6.5 kilometres of open water to circumnavigate the island. Swimming around a whole island is to us the ultimate adventure and the Brownsea Island swim is a firm favourite. The Dorset Wildlife Trust own much of the north-east corner of Brownsea Island which is dominated by lagoons and artificial islands that support a vast array of birdlife, water voles and sika deer. A Brownsea Island walking map, which also offers shorter routes, is provided by the National Trust upon arrival at the island’s quay. This walk offers fabulous wildlife spotting opportunities and stunning views to Poole and Sandbanks, the Purbeck Hills and the chalk stacks of Old Harry’s Rocks.
